First Annual Luncheon
"Honoring Working Class Women"

PilotThe Harry Bridges Institute in cooperation with The Port of Los Angeles hosted the First Annual Tribute luncheon: "Honoring Working Class Women" at the West Coast Hotel, 700 Queensway in Long Beach on Sunday, October 27, 2002.

Our agenda included a buffet lunch and sponsor awards to The Port of Los Angeles, Dr. Guy Nelson, D.C. and Diane L. Middleton.

Honoree Awards to Four Women in Industry
Patricia Aguirre, I.L.W.U. Local 13,
Audrey Hudson, Pile Drivers Local 2375,
Paula Solomon, I.B.E.W. Local 11 and
Helen Kaunisto, I.L.W.U. Ladies Aux. #8.

RivetingSenator Betty Karnette, State Assemblyman Alan Lowenthal and other area politicians attended and provided certificates certificates as well.

Following the luncheon, a fashion show was held featuring clothing from another era. "Women at Work, Then and Now," a look at the garments traditionally worn in the workplace, was provided by the Hollywood Motion Picture Costumers Union Local #705. The show featured our own local area working women as models.

"Honoring Working Class Women" is another way the Harry Bridges Institute promotes a positive culture for labor, recognizing rank and file members for their contributions to their union and community.
