Bread and Roses
Bread and Roses Held Thursday, July 26, 2001
7 pm Warner Grand Theatre*
$7 admission

Bread and Roses is a movie about the struggle of invisible office cleaners to gain dignity and respect at work. The story is fictional, but it is based on the inspirational real-life story of the Los Angeles janitors who beat the odds to win better lives through SEIU's Justice for Janitors campaign.

The film received outstanding reviews at Cannes 2000 and won best foreign film at the Rio de Janeiro Film Festival.

6-7 PM
Reception Arcade Bldg. (across from the Warner Grand Theatre) Honoring the Justice for Janitors Campaign featuring special guest, International Vice President of the SEIU Eliseo Medina.

7 PM Film at the Warner Grand Theatre* with introductory remarks by Miguel Contreras, Exec. Secretary Treasurer of the LA County Federation of Labor on “The New Labor Movement in Los Angeles”.

Roundtable discussion followed the film.

Tickets were on sale at the Warner Grand Theatre box office with information and advance ticket sales at the law office of Diane Middleton, (310) 519-7555

Sponsored by the Harry Bridges Institute and the ILWU in honor of the 100th birthday celebration of Harry Bridges (1901-1990) visionary labor leader and founder of the ILWU.

* The Warner Grand Theatre is located at 478 W. 6th Street in San Pedro between Pacific Ave. and Mesa Street.  Parking is available in the Municipal parking lot on 7th Street between Pacific Avenue and Mesa Street or in the Municipal parking lot at the intersection of 6th and Mesa Streets.  The Warner Grand Theatre is a facility of the Cultural Affairs Department of the City of Los Angeles.
